Why accelerate with PrusaLab?

PrusaLab Acceleration is a partnership-based form of cooperation for projects where it makes sense to involve 3D printing, prototyping, engineering, electronics and digital manufacturing in the development of a real product, prototype or experimental solution.

Building on our experience from the original PrusaLab hardware accelerator, project membership, creative vouchers and custom prototyping, all these formats had one thing in common: they helped interesting teams, companies and creators push their ideas further using PrusaLab's technology, know-how and facilities. Today, we are bringing them together under the broader concept of acceleration as individually tailored cooperation based on the needs of the specific project.

We aren't just about manufacturing something to order. We get involved in projects where we can bring our expertise in 3D printing, materials, design, prototyping, and manufacturing know-how. At the same time, 3D printing doesn't always have to be the final production technology. It often serves as a tool for the rapid verification of shape, function, mechanics, ergonomics, assembly, or the entire manufacturing process.

We are looking for projects that have a technical, developmental, or experimental overlap. This can be a startup with a physical product, a company verifying a new product, a research team, an installation artist, a designer, or a creator who needs professional facilities for more demanding prototyping. What is important for us is that the project is not just a standard production order, but opens up the question of how things can be designed, tested, or manufactured more cleverly.

We assess each project individually. Depending on its phase, scope and our capacity, we agree on the form of support, length of cooperation, involvement of our team and the method of financing. The result can be a short consultation, a technological design, a series of prototypes, material testing, the development of a functional sample, or longer-term cooperation on a solution that cannot be properly verified without experimentation.

Is the acceleration programme still a traditional acceleration programme?

Not in its original form. Previously, the PrusaLab Hardware Accelerator operated as a structured programme featuring an open call, applications, project selection, financial support, mentoring and a final Demo Day. Today, we view acceleration more broadly, as tailored collaboration with projects where PrusaLab can assist with development, prototyping, testing and finding a suitable solution.

Do accelerated projects receive financial support?

We do not work with a predetermined budget or automatic financial support for every selected project. The form of cooperation is set individually according to the needs of the project, our capacities and the benefit to both parties. It can be commercial cooperation, a discounted regime, a partnership model, barter, marketing counter-performance or any other agreement that makes sense for the specific project.

What role must 3D printing play in the project?

3D printing should be essential to the project, but it does not necessarily have to be the final production technology. We often use it as a development tool: for rapid prototyping, verifying shape, function, mechanics, ergonomics, assembly, or the production process. We are mainly interested in whether 3D printing helps move the project forward in a way that would otherwise be slower, more expensive, or more complex.

For which projects is acceleration suitable?

Acceleration makes sense for projects with a technical, developmental, or experimental overlap. Typically, this could be a hardware startup, a new physical product, a research or student project, a functional prototype, a design object, an art installation, or a technological experiment. You do not need to have a finished product or complete documentation, but you should know what you want to verify and why PrusaLab should get involved.

Is it possible to just have something printed or manufactured with you?

Standard custom 3D printing is no longer the main focus of PrusaLab. Custom manufacturing is now handled by other teams within Prusa Research (more information can be found herePrusaLab primarily enters projects that require thinking about solutions, developing, testing, iterating and finding a suitable path from an idea to a functional result. If you have finished data and only need the production of a part, another type of service will probably be more suitable for you.

How do I apply for the acceleration programme?

Send us a brief description of the project, its current phase and, crucially, what you want to verify or develop together with us. It helps us if you describe the technical challenge, the expected output, the role of 3D printing and your idea of the scope of the cooperation. If the project fits our focus and we have the capacity for it, we will get back to you to arrange the next steps.
