Artists Lukáš Dřevjaný, Luboš Zbranek, Michal Mitro and David Minařík have become the winners of the open call Signal Calling 2023 organised in collaboration with the programme board of Signal Festival. Their project, a modular light object called Mech, will be presented at this year's 11th edition of the festival.
The original concept was created during an inspiring stay in the woods and mountains. However, the idea eventually ended up in a drawer. Thanks to our Signal Calling challenge, their project can now come to life again.
Together they created a work that was selected from 25 submitted projects. Students and professionals from creative fields such as architecture, design, art and engineering are invited to take part. A panel made up of the festival's artistic board and representatives of the PrusaLab creative workshop selected the modular light object Mech as the most interesting project. The work is inspired by a living ecosystem; it consists of engraved plexiglass segments that distribute light across its surface. Mech will be able to illuminate both itself and its surroundings, offering a wide range of creative uses in various fields of art. The panel recognised it for its modularity and ability to respond to its surroundings.
Lukáš Dřevjaný is a visual artist focusing on light design, video and virtual reality. In 2021, he presented the installation Impakt at the Prague Exhibition Grounds as part of Signal Festival, and in 2022 he also helped prepare the installation PHOTOSYSTEM II at Kunsthalle Praha by Ondřej Zunka & Zünc Studio . Luboš Zbranek is a 3D artist, VJ and lighting designer.
