Artists Lukáš Dřevjaný, Luboš Zbranek, Michal Mitro a David Minařík became to the winner open calls Signal Calling 2023 held in cooperation with the programme board Signal Festival. Their project, a modular light object called Mech, will be presented at this year's 11th annual festival.
The original concept was created during an inspiring stay in the woods and mountains. However, the idea eventually ended up in a drawer. Thanks to our Signal Calling challenge, their project can now come to life again.
Together they created a work that was selected from 25 registered projects. Students and professionals from creative fields such as architects, designers, artists and engineers are invited to the competition. A committee composed of the festival's artistic board and representatives of the PrusaLab creative workshop selected a modular light object Moss as the most interesting project. The inspiration for this work is a living ecosystem consisting of engraved acrylic fittings, which enables the distribution of light across its surface. The moss will be able to illuminate both itself and its surroundings, thus offering a wide range of creative uses in various artistic fields. It won recognition from the competition committee thanks to its modularity a abilities to react to the surrounding environment.
Lukáš Dřevjaný is a visual artist focusing on lighting design, video and virtual reality. In 2021, he presented an installation at the Prague Exhibition Grounds as part of the Signal Festival Impact or he also participated in the preparation of the installation PHOTOSYSTEM II at Kunsthalle Praha from Ondřej Zunky & Zünc Studio in 2022. Luboš Zbranek he is a 3D designer, VJ and light designer.
PrusaLab is a partner already the 4th annual Signal Calling and provides the necessary background, materials and experience without which the winning installation could not have been created.
