At Meet the Makers 20 Michaela Doležalová, founder of Jasna Studio, presented her unique approach to making paper lanterns and lights. Michaela focuses on eco-friendly design that combines traditional handcraft techniques with the innovative possibilities of 3D printing. This creative mix gives her more freedom to experiment with materials, especially handmade paper, which is at the heart of her work.

Jasna Studio specialises in lamps with handmade paper shades to which natural additives are added. Each piece is carefully designed with an emphasis on aesthetics and functionality, and Michaela makes sure her lights are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. She tailors the products to customers’ individual requirements and combines handmade production with modern design elements that give each light an original look.
Ecological and sustainable materials
When making paper, Michaela emphasises the use of natural and recycled materials such as mulberry bast, seasonal flowers or fallen leaves. This ecological approach, which aims to minimise waste and use renewable resources, is the foundation of her work.
How does 3D printing help Michaela?
In her presentation, Michaela explained how 3D printing simplifies and speeds up some stages of her production. Traditional ways of making moulds were time-consuming and limited the design options. With 3D printing, Michaela can precisely design complex shapes and structures that would not be easy to make by hand. The technology lets her achieve greater precision and has opened up new possibilities for designing unique lampshade shapes.
Collaboration with PrusaLab
When developing the screens, Michaela works closely with PrusaLab, where she uses not only its 3D printing technologies but the whole prototyping process. PrusaLab gives her not only technological support but also space to experiment with new ideas and materials.
