JASNA: When light meets nature (and 3D printing)

When poetry meets technology, things are created that not only work but also shine. Literally. Michaela Doležalová, the creator of the Jasnabrand, is an exceptional maker who turns handmade paper into light objects with a story. And we at PrusaLab are thrilled to have been part of her journey.

From floral waste to light

Michaela – or rather Jasna – moves on the borderline between art, design and environmental activism. She gathers flowers that others no longer want: from cemeteries, florists' shops and even from Christmas trees. She gives these seemingly forgotten plants a new life in the form of light fittings that emit not only light, but also a story. The entire production process is sustainable, slow, thorough and (until recently) also relatively time-consuming.

And then came PrusaLab

Our collaboration with Michaela began as part of the pilot project of creative vouchers, which we launched as a new support tool for makers and creators with an original vision. Michaela approached us with an idea for a 3D printed sieve for making segments of handmade paper. The challenge? To replace several different tools with a single, functional unit.

The result? A modular, multi-part sieve that not only saves time and energy, but also brings greater precision, repeatability and comfort to the work. Thanks to it, Michaela can fully immerse herself in what she enjoys most – selecting natural ingredients, experimenting and the creation itself.

Jasna was recently featured at the Floralis Temple exhibition at The Design gallery (February–March 2025). The installation of light and paper captivated visitors with its delicacy, its story and its sustainable approach. A series of limited-edition lampshades and a DIY collection show that beauty can be born from what others consider waste.

And because Michaela not only creates but also inspires, she was a guest at our inspirational evening Meet the Makers, where she shared her story and practical experiences with a community of fellow creatives and enthusiasts. If you missed it, be sure to check out the recording on our YouTube channel.

“Bending lines are simply printed using 3D printing, which, if I were to do it by hand, would be very demanding. This opens up new possibilities in what kind of design I can create thanks to this, I have much better precision and I can create more diverse designs,” Michaela Doležalová evaluates the 3D-printed sieve.

It doesn’t end with the voucher

Creative vouchers are part of a wider support package we offer at PrusaLab. Along with the PrusaLab hardware accelerator and project membership in our space, they form another way we help ideas grow, take shape – and sometimes even shine.

Jasna It’s not just a brand. It’s an attitude. And we’re delighted to have been able to give it shape – with a touch of 3D printing thrown in.

If you'd like to know which other startups are growing with PrusaLab’s help, follow our blog or apply for the next round of the hardware accelerator. Perhaps your project will be the next one to receive support from Josef Průša.
