EggBot: When a robot dyes Easter eggs

Just before Easter, as part of an internal workshop my colleagues and I built egg-decorating robots. We certainly have no ambition to modernise our old customs and traditions. We added the spring holiday theme to the basic robotics workshop to make it more light-hearted and appealing.

Workshop content

Participants in the two workshop sessions could try out how to use several technologies to make the components of the robots, then assemble them, bring them to life, program them and finally modify them further so that the eggs would be as colourful as possible.

What to do with them?

A pleasant surprise came after the workshop ended, when we were thinking about how to make further use of the 10 robots. One of our colleagues came up with the idea to repeat the event in Andílek Montessori Primary School, where he teaches computer science. And since it is an institution that normally follows the motto “Learning through play”, it was no problem to sneak the workshop into the curriculum.

Both our colleagues and the pupils enjoyed the event and appreciated the practical application of robotics principles in a specific project. And as a bonus, they took home originally decorated eggs.
