This time we were joined by <strong>Luc Hanneuse<\/strong> from&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/agrilab.unilasalle.fr\/\">AgriLab<\/a><\/strong> in France, who shared his fascinating projects and innovations in the world of <strong>agriculture<\/strong>. Luc\u2019s presentation was full of practical examples of work by AgriLab members. For those who could not attend, here is the recording and a summary of the key points of his talk.<\/p>\n\n\n<em>The video recording is in Czech.<\/em>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"A Taste of Projects from the Largest Agriculture-Focused FabLab \u2013 Luc Hanneuse (AgriLab)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bRpeOcMU8kg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>AgriLab can even fit a tractor<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luc opened his presentation by introducing AgriLab, which is located on a&nbsp;<strong>large university campus<\/strong> in France. The size of the space allows work on large projects right inside the building \u2013 you can even drive a big tractor in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Precision agriculture and RTK GPS<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the main topics of Luc\u2019s presentation was <strong>precision agriculture<\/strong> and the use of <strong>RTK GPS<\/strong> with an accuracy of 1 cm. Such a system is usually very expensive, but at AgriLab they teach farmers how to <strong>build their own antenna<\/strong> and use this technology <strong>for a fraction of the price<\/strong>. This allows farmers to take very <strong>precise measurements<\/strong>, <strong>optimise <\/strong>their farming<strong> practices<\/strong> and the associated <strong>costs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Open source and Fab Academy<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luc stressed the importance of <strong>open-source <\/strong>innovation and&nbsp;<strong>knowledge sharing<\/strong>. AgriLab is part of the global programme <strong>Fab Academy<\/strong>, which supports peer learning and the rapid creation of new projects. People from all over the world meet at AgriLab to collaborate on innovative projects such as <strong>an autonomous robot<\/strong> for agricultural use, built by a student <strong>with no previous knowledge of electronics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From idea to implementation<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the strongest moments of Luc\u2019s presentation was a showcase of the projects created at AgriLab every day. For example, an <strong>autonomous farm cart<\/strong>, which can recognise people and carry up to 100 kg, or a <strong>tractor autopilot system<\/strong> made using 3D printing. These projects not only attract the attention of large industrial companies but also inspire others to start innovating themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Challenges and funding<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, Luc talked about the challenges of funding such a large project. AgriLab draws on a variety of sources, including EU grants, support from agricultural banks and university funds. It also offers private services and is planning to launch a new programme, <strong>Agri Academy<\/strong>, which will focus on teaching and sharing knowledge in agriculture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Luc showed us how innovation and technology can contribute to more sustainable and efficient agriculture. His enthusiasm and willingness to share his knowledge are an inspiration to us all.
